Hosted by the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Northeastern NY (RPCV NENY) and the Center for Global Health at the University at Albany’s School of Public Health.  The  evening will raise awareness and funds for the prevention and treatment of women with  obstetric fistula. Proceeds will support patients, patient ambassadors, and staff of the Fistula Center in Malawi, Africa.

Two million women and girls in Africa and Asia live with untreated obstetric fistula, which is a hole between the vagina and rectum or bladder that is caused by prolonged obstructed labor and lack of access to maternity care. Left incontinent, they are often condemned to a life of solitude and despair.

“Shout Gladi Gladi” features Academy Award winning actress Meryl Streep as the narrator. The film celebrates the extraordinary people who help African women and girls heal from obstetric fistula, a devastating medical condition that turns many women into outcasts in their community.
