The RPCVs of NENY are in the process of holding local district meetings with the congressional representatives of our catchment area. The purpose of these meetings is to request support for current or upcoming Peace Corps-related legislation. These meetings are being coordinated with the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA), which has amassed an impressive and very helpful amount of information to help with this.

We encourage each of you to consider getting involved with this initiative by emailing Eliot Cresswell (eliotcresswell@gmail.com) or Sara Poggi (sypoggi@gmail.com). If you’re interested in helping, please do NOT reach out to your representatives directly without checking with us first. As mentioned, we are coordinating these meetings with NPCA so we must stress the importance of a uniform, organized approach to our advocacy efforts. Help us work together to make the most of our efforts and present the Peace Corps cause in the most effective way.
Below are a breakdown the next steps involved by congressional district and a list of relevant resources.

Senators Gillibrand & Schumer

The RPCVs of NYC are in the process of scheduling meetings with the Senators and/or their staff at their NYC offices. NPCA suggests we link up with those efforts to advocate for Peace Corps. If you’re interested in helping or participating, let Eliot or Sara know.
Former NPCA board member Priscilla Goldbarb held a meeting with Rep. Maloney’s Newburgh office staff on Thursday, August 8. Feedback from the meeting was very positive. We appreciate the opportunity to talk with Rep. Maloney’s office.
Becky Raymond and Eliot Cresswell met with Rep. Chris Gibson who was very receptive. He offered his support of Peace Corps overall goals and some of the current legislation under review. Thanks to Rep. Gibson and his staff for making time for the RPCVs of Northeastern NY.
~High Priority for NPCA
We need volunteers to contact us to work on scheduling a meeting with Rep. Tonko’s staff. Please email me or Sara if you live in Rep. Tonko’s district and want to help.
We met with Matthew Scollin in Rep. Owens’ Glens Falls office. Matthew was very receptive and we appreciate the opportunity to talk with Rep. Owens’ office about Peace Corps.
If you live in Rep. Hanna’s district and want to help, email RPCV Sharon Eghigien at shabill@roadrunner.com.
